THE Chamber of Commerce has received a record number of entries in this year's Scottish Borders Business Awards scheme.

In total, 56 applications were submitted across nine different categories for the awards, which celebrate local companies.

The two categories attracting the highest number of entries were the 'Best Business High Growth and Innovation' and 'Most Innovative Business with under five Employees' awards.

And the winners will be announced at an ceremony which will be held on November 11 at Kelso’s Springwood Park.

Jack Clark, SBCC Convenor, said: "We are naturally delighted to see such a large increase in the number of entries.

"This is only the second year since the Chamber of Commerce took over the organisation of these business awards from Scottish Borders Council.

"Since last year’s successful event, we have simplified the application process which is now entirely done on-line. This has no doubt encouraged more firms to get involved.

"But, more importantly, I believe the increase in entries demonstrates the skills and enthusiasm to be found in abundance among so many talented businesses located in the Borders," he added.

"The fact that the two most popular categories both highlight the significance of innovation speaks volumes for the sort of modern, forward looking businesses which are being established and which are growing rapidly from their bases in the Borders.

"SBCC is proud to be involved with these annual business awards. They are not only an important showcase for local businesses, but are also vital testimony that the Borders region is a great location from which to do business and grow successful companies.

"The Chamber’s thanks go to all sponsors and other companies who are giving their valuable support."
