A GROUP of Earlston Rhymers players, officials, fans and the odd pet dog took part in an 11- mile sponsored walk on Sunday November 19, as a tribute to Robert ‘Kay’ Carlyle following his death at the age of 67 in August.
Half the money their walk around the Earlston circular and Leader path raises will be donated to the Melburn Lodge Borders specialist dementia unit at the Borders General Hospital and the other half will be spent on improvements to the showers at their Runciman Park clubhouse.

They initially set a fundraising target of £1,000 but had surpassed that amount before setting off from The Swan Bar in the town.
Carlyle played for Rhymers from 1990 until 2003 and subsequently managing to the Border Amateur Football Association’s B division title in 1991 and A division title in 2003.
Organiser Lee Manderson said: “So many families are affected by dementia these days so we wanted to help the unit at the BGH.

“The walk is in tribute to our former manager ‘Kay’ Carlyle who sadly passed away earlier this year.
“The money raised will be divided between the unit and improving the showers at the club which have been around for 40-years.
“We set a target of £1,000 but have already passed that so now we are hoping to make it £2,000.
“If anyone wants to donate, then they can do so on our just giving page which is accessible via our facebook page.”
The Rhymers have currently raised an incredible £2,200 with more to come.
