A BORDERS shop is set to close its doors at the end of the month.
Poundland, on Channel Street in Galashiels, will close at the end of February after it was unable to secure new premises.
Staff say they were "gutted" by the news of the closure.
A Poundland spokesperson added that the branch was "disappointed" not to find a new space for the shop.
They said: "We’re as disappointed as colleagues and customers that we’ve been unable to either renew our current lease or find alternative premises in Galashiels.
"Sadly this means the store will close at the end of February."
The shop had reportedly considered the former New Look store at Gala Water Retail Park as a new location.
However, at present the shop will no longer have a presence in Galashiels.
The spokesperson added: "If we can find the right premises in future, nothing would please us more than to return to the town.
"It goes without saying where we’re unable to renew a lease, we do everything we can to look after our colleagues."
The Galashiels Poundland is the only branch in the Borders.
With the shop closing, the next nearest Poundland is in Musselburgh.
