BORDERS rugby players were in action at Scotland's home of rugby on Sunday in the annual Regional Finals.

And there was success for Gala's Lisa Robertson who helped the East Women defend the Donna Kennedy Cup in the final against West Women.

The East team emerged winners by 43 points to 10.

Robbie Irvine from Gala had the honour of captaining the Borders/East Lothian team for their Under 18s final against Caledonia.

Fellow Borderers Matthew Klein (Earlston HS), Matthew Kindness (Kelso HS), Adam Hall (Earlston HS), William Owen (Earlston HS), Finlay Scott (Jed Thistle), Kyle Amos (Jed GS) and Thomas Brown (Melrose) were also in the starting team.

Calum Renwick (Hawick HS), Thomas Jeffrey (Peebles RFC), Thomas Hope (Hawick RFC), Scott Clark (Selkirk HS), John Turnbull (Gala Academy), and Morgan Tait (Hawick HS) were all on the bench.

Despite a spirited performance it was Caledonia who won the title with a 32-8 victory.

There was also a finals day defeat for the Borders/East Lothian Under 16s team.

The regional team featured Roly Brett (Earlston HS), Andrew Duff (Duns RFC), Harry Makowski (Earlston HS), Fergus Johnstone (Gala Academy), Jake Fairley (Earlston HS), Finlay Campbell (Jed GS) and Trystan Andrews (Earlston HS) in the starting 15.

Replacements also included Jack Docherty (Kelso HS), Daniel Kerr (Gala Academy), Hamish Tweedie (Kelso HS), Evan Alexander (Hawick HS) and Andrew Thompson (Kelso HS).

But it was the capital teenagers who lifted the trophy with a 36-12 win.
