NOT only did Max Playfer complete a remarkable hat-trick of Men's Doubles Club Championship titles at St Boswells Tennis Club's finals day on Saturday, he also added the 2016 Mixed Doubles title too.

Playfer, this year playing alongside the up-and-coming and very talented Christian Townsend in the seeded draw, took the Men's Doubles with a very tight 6-4 4-6 10-4 victory over Charles Strang and Doug Folan.

The victors then found themselves facing off against each other in the Mixed Doubles final, with Playfer partnering Alenka Aird to an impressive 6-3 6-4 win over Townsend and Ailsa Tweedie.

On a day of hard-fought matches, Claire Townsend successfully defended her singles title, producing a fantastic comeback to defeat her regular league doubles partner Lynn Bruce 4-6 6-0 10-5.

In the Men's Singles, Jason Varty and defending champion from 2014 and 2015 Gary Lemmon also produced some excellent tennis, particularly in the second set, but it was Varty who ran out the champion 6-0 6-4.

The Ladies Doubles, delayed until Sunday, was won by Jess Lemmon and Frankie Younger with a 6-4 7-6 victory in yet another closely fought contest against Cindy Webster and Linda Geddes.
