BERWICKSHIRE’S Guy Learmonth smashed the championship record on Sunday at the Scottish Indoor Championships.
The 27-year-old clocked 1.48.77 to take the national title ahead of Cameron Steven and Ewan Dyer.
There was also a silver medal for Selkirk’s Henry Clarkson in the triple jump.
The Loughborough-based athlete was just 13 centimetres behind Harrow’s Efe Uwaifo at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
But the reigning outdoor 400 metres champion, Stacey Downie, had to settle for fourth in her final.
The 32-year-old teacher from West Linton clocked 57.63 behind Edinburgh’s Mhari Patience in the final.
Cardrona schoolgirl Ellie O’Hara finished fourth in both the senior triple jump and long jump.
The teenager, who was the youngest in the competition, reached 5.60 metres in the long jump and 11.59 in the triple jump.
Imogen Lewis from Peebles was also fourth in the Under 17s triple jump with a best distance of 11.33 metres.
